About Dr. Karamanos

The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the addition of plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Efstathios Karamanos, M.D., who will help to continue the revitalization of the specialty of reconstructive surgery at ARMC.

A native of Athens, Greece, Dr. Karamanos joins the medical staff at ARMC after serving two years as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon for Southern Illinois Healthcare. He joins Brianne Mitchell, M.D., in the plastic surgery service at ARMC. Dr. Mitchell restarted reconstructive plastic surgery at ARMC when she joined the Department of Surgery in September 2023.

Dr. Karamanos’ goals at ARMC include: further enhancing the plastic surgery service by focusing on breast reconstruction and helping to develop a breast center of excellence, creating a lymphedema clinic and strengthening limb salvage with the introduction of targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) for amputees.

Dr. Karamanos earned his Doctor of Medicine at National and Kapodistrian University School of Medicine in Athens, Greece. He then completed his general surgery residency at Wayne State University in Detroit and plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the University of Texas, San Antonio.
